Protective Glass Screens | Hallmark Care Homes

The Challenge 

During the COVID-19 pandemic, it became more and more difficult for family members to visit their elderly relatives who reside in care homes. The risk of infection meant that businesses across the UK were implementing various protective measure to protect both staff and residents.

For this glass partitioning installation at Hallmark Care Homes, we helped our client create a safe space in one of the resident rooms at the care home that was at the time, unoccupied. Although single glazed glass partitions are not completely soundproof, we were aware that many of the residents within the care home were likely to struggle with hearing. This meant that we needed to provide a solution that allowed sound to pass through the glass panels – without the risk of also spreading COVID-19.

The Solution 

With the help of our glass partitioning, we were able to transform the space in our client’s care home to an area where visitors could visit residents in a safe environment. The glass partitioning walls acted like a protective screen to help reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

To overcome the challenges regarding hearing conversations, we used Melaphone. Melaphone is specially designed to allow sterile communication, alongside a high level of vision and safety to protect the care home’s residents. With this option, there is no thru-air flow, meaning that there was also no transmission of germs or dust. Instead, speech and conversations with loved ones would be transmitted through a transparent diaphragm.

With our help, our client was able to provide a safe space that allowed loved ones to reconnect. Not only did this make the pandemic a little bit more bearable, but it also helped to improve the wellbeing of the residents under their care.
