Office space can quickly become familiar, meaning opportunities to utilise space can easily be overlooked. However, in the long run, it’s beneficial to be regularly analysing the space you have available, and whether it’s being optimised well. This is especially true if you are growing a business. Effective space management can lead to increased productivity, employee satisfaction, and a professional environment for meetings and collaborations. This is where glass partitions can make a real difference.
For our latest job, we were invited down to Baker Street in London to help advise them on how best to optimise their office space with glass partitions.
It may not be the famous 221B Baker Street (aka the Sherlock Holmes Museum) but we still had a mystery to solve – solving the lack of dedicated office rooms. Although open-plan offices work in some business cases, they can be disruptive in others with travelling noise and lack of privacy. Our challenge was to find a balance between maintaining an open, airy feel and creating private, functional spaces.
We had to consider two key elements during the planning process:
To Create Privacy
Our client’s core need focussed primarily on needing private areas so that meetings with internal employees and external clients could be executed in a professional and focussed room. Privacy is crucial for confidential discussions, strategic planning, and creating a quiet environment conducive to concentration.
Allowing For Natural Light
With high ceilings, this space had beautiful large windows that let in a huge amount of natural light into the room. Natural light is essential for creating a pleasant working environment, reducing energy costs, and boosting employee wellbeing. We wanted a solution that means this sunlight still streams through into the whole room, divided or not, and that’s when glass is a great solution!
As we had different office areas/rooms to work with, and after discussion, we settled on creating a conference room and a director’s office with a frameless glass partition wall. This decision gives the client that increased privacy they were after, whilst still zoning areas into usable dedicated spaces. It allowed for confidential meetings and an executive space without compromising the open feel of the office.
Because of the higher ceilings in this particular building, we needed to add an extra 300mm glass panels above the standard-sized doors to ensure a snug fit. This resulted in a floor-to-ceiling frameless glass wall look, which not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the space but also maximised the distribution of natural light.
The client opted for classic frameless glass office partitions with black tracks, giving a contemporary look and feel while still allowing for natural light to stream through the large windows. This modern design choice created a sleek and professional appearance, aligning with the client’s brand image.
The glass and door are both 12mm single-paned safety toughened glass. Toughened glass undergoes specialist treatment to offer a high-quality and safe product that can be used in a variety of environments, resulting in increased shatter and heat resistance. This ensures the partitions are durable and long-lasting.
This glass choice also provides sound protection of up to 33dB helping to minimise sound through the partition, creating muffled voices. This is an ideal choice for our client, as it reduces distractions and maintains privacy within the office.
The mystery has been solved, and due to our team’s knowledge, we were able to come up with a suitable solution quickly for our London-based client. The new frameless glass partition walls have transformed the office space, creating a more functional, private, and aesthetically pleasing environment. If you’d like to explore how you can utilise your office space give our expert team a call to discuss how we might be able to help.
