The bottom line is, glass manifestations are a legal requirement. In critical locations, they are designed to prevent people walking into glass panes, avoiding accidents and injury. Legal regulations require manifestations to be located between 850mm to 1000mm and 1400mm to 1600mm from the floor.

Any internal or external walls or doors in non-domestic settings, where people are moving around and could collide with glass, require these safety measures. This can include shops, showrooms, restaurants, offices, factories, and public spaces.

Do I Need Manifestations?

While they are a legal requirement for some, not all glass requires a manifestation.

Legislation states that manifestations are NOT required on:

• Glazing less than 400mm in width between frames
• Glazing with a rail between 600 & 1500mm above the floor
• A single pane glazed door with a substantial frame
• Glazed doors with no frame or narrow frames but with large handle or push plate on each single pane
